Car paid off!

I am so happy, we have officially gotten my 2004 Subaru Forrester paid off! The goal was to have it paid off within a year, and since we bought it on Jun 21 last year, we just made it! We are still working on rebuilding our credit so we had a pretty high interest rate, even with a cosigner, but hopefully this will help our score a little. We paid just over $7000 (I knew what I wanted and waited until I found an expectional deal on craigslist, had it checked by a mechanic obvisouly, then offered a little less than asking as I always do). We were able to pay it off by putting all those little unexpected extras towards it (like when you get a rebate from something or find an extra $100 in your budget, etc.) Every little bit counts. We also put some of our income return towards it (not all because we had other bills to pay off and needed to inflate our savings a little). This is a happy day! Next is the house (our last house payment will be in october as we are putting everything extra richard is making being deployed towards that) then all we have left are those pesky student loans!

Butte Dollar Tree

I wanted to do a little thing on the dollar tree here in butte, (it's between quality supply and walmart if you've never been). There are alot of things that you can get here WAY cheaper than anywhere else. Here are just a few things I regularly get there rather than elsewhere:

-cold lunch fillers (my favorite is the 6 pack of peanuts since my son loves them)
- makeup (yes this may sound strange but they get shipments of name brand items all the time, they may have your favorite. I've seen sally hansen, covergirl, e.l.f., etc)
- toothpaste, packs of floss picks, and toothbrushes (they have a pack of 6 for $1)
-kitchen utensils, sandwich bags, etc.
-pet products (they have leashes, toys, dog bowls, and I've actually found that their urine remover spray works better than the $20 bottle at petsmart)
-paint brushes, sandpaper, tools
-toys (my kids will break it no matter how expensive it was so I figure $1 is better than $20. And I like that I can send my 7 yr old to pick anything off the shelf and not have to say no because of price)
-birthday party and wedding supplies
-over the counter medicines (they have children's benadryl and almost any supplement you can think of)

They get new shipments every week, so if you ever get a chance, you should take a walk through. You'd be very suprised what you can find for $1!

Today's shopping trip

Today's shopping trip consisted of Albertson's and CVS. I spent $10.36 and saved $47.49. They key here is to purchase as many as you can when items are very cheap (especially if you have coupons to combine the sale with). That way, when you need something you have it on hand rather than having to run out and pay full price. It really doesn't take long to get a good size stockpile going!

Craigslist Find

This is the set of Fridgidaire HE front loading washer and dryer that I found on Butte's craigslist last week. I paid $500 for the set (with pedastals) that are about a year old. They are in great shape and work awesome. I've known for a while now that we would be needing a new set soon as our old ones were starting to act up. I knew we wanted the front loaders so I've been watching craigslist and finally found my set! They were listed for $800 but I offered $500 (never hurts to ask!) I also got the added benefits of being able to donate our old set to somebody who really needed them, and putting money back into our local economy by shopping in butte (not to mention saving gas having to drive somewhere!) The butte craigslist doesn't always have very many new postings, but it will get there!

May 13th Free Dental Day

The second friday of every month (this month is the 13th) the Community Health Center has a free dental clinic for kids without insurance. We have gone many times and they are great! It's first come, first served but they take walk ins until 4. In my experience, they aren't too busy and we get in and out fairly quick. They do cleanings, checkups, and if needed they can do some light dental work (fillings that don't require sedation, etc). For more info you can call 496-6007

CVS Diaper Sale

CVS has a pretty good sale on diapers right now. They are the cvs brand diapers, I have yet to try them so can't attest yet to the quality, but I have found that many generics are better than name brand diapers. They have their box packs (size 3 had 72 diapers) on sale for $14.49 each. Last week, the kiosk printed out a $4 off cvs diapers coupon, plus this week it gave me a 30% off cvs brand items. These can be stacked, so my box came out to about $6. I had extracare bucks from last week so I didn't pay anything out of pocket. But even without the coupons, $14 isn't bad for a box of diapers. When I was pregnant I stocked up on these deals so I didn't have to buy diapers until after he was a year old. I still stock up when they are a really good price, even if they only have a larger size as he will eventually grow into them :)

Kmart- Shoes Clearance

I was at kmart the other day (sorry computer has been acting up) and they had a TON of shoes on clearance. They had kids, womens, mens, and still a very good selection in sizes and styles. I got my mom a pair of leather thomas mcann shoes and a pair for myself for around $3 each (normally around $25-$30 a pair). They had lots of snow and work boots, but also alot of spring styles. This is definately a stock up sale! The butte walmart also has some shoes on clearance, though not too much selection in sizes left. Theirs are about $3 each also.

Most important lesson in being frugal

I happen to believe that if you are going to spend hard earned money on a purchase (on any kind-food, services, whatever) you should be completely satisfied. The biggest lesson I can teach is that if you are not satisfied, SAY SOMETHING! If you are unhappy with a product, call the 800 number or email them (try to have reciept and product in hand). If something is broke, even after a year of use, they will usually send a replacement part or refund at least part of your money. If it's a service you are unhappy with, speak to a manager.

Easy way to earn $$$

I use swagbucks ALOT. What is swagbucks? Go to http://www.swagbucks.com/ and sign up for an account, it's free and easy. It's basically a search engine that randomly generates points for searching, answering polls, etc. I set it as my homepage and use it for every search. I usually earn about 900 points every month or two. 450 points can get you a $5 amazon.com gift card. When I reach 900, I redeem my points for two of these $5 cards and use them to purchase toilet paper, laundry or dish soap, whatever I can find on sale on amazon that I would have to purchase eventually anyways. This is an easy way to earn money since especially if you do alot of searching. And amazon has some GREAT deals sometimes! If you can't find anything you need, they also have mp3 downloads or you can start xmas shopping early.

Walmart Easter 90% Off

I was at walmart today and their Easter stuff has finally gone down to 90% off. This is what I wait for to stock up for next year. I got everything I need to fill two easter baskets next year and send a box of goodies to my hubby for $8. There wasn't much left except TONS of candy, so hurry over!
